The Regent Kuala Lumpur - Super Saver Rates

Thursday 28 December 2006

The Regent Kuala Lumpur is ideally located opposite KL Plaza and Starhill Shopping Centre on Jalan Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur. If you stay here, you can shop to your hearts content because Lot 10 Shopping Centre, Sg. Wang Plaza and BB Plaza are also just a stone's throw away.

Boasting 468 rooms over 19 floors, the rooms are well-furnished and luxuriant. Every room features individually controlled centralized air-conditioning, hands-free telephone with two IDD lines and a bathroom extension with voice mail, in-room safe, television with in-house movies, CNN, ASTRO and multi-channel music and radio selections, mini bar units, computer ports, and in-room facsimile facilities. All guestrooms and meeting rooms are equipped with Broadband High Speed Internet Access.

The Regent Kuala Lumpur also boasts an award winning Chinese Restaurant - Lai Ching Yuen. However, if you are not much of a "hotel food" kind of person, there are ample restaurants and hawker stalls nearby giving you the full gastronomic adventure of Malaysia.

The hotel would not have been surviving for so many years in the competitive hotel business in Malaysia, particularly Kuala Lumpur, if not for its service and comfort to its guests. Testimony to this is the hotel winning the 2005/2006 Hospitality Asia Platinum Award for Service Excellence.

Currently, based on my internet search, rates are available from as low as RM225++ or USD79 onwards. For a 5-star rated hotel in the best of locations at the Bukit Bintang Triangle, that's a very good deal, I would say.

Berjaya Langkawi Beach and Spa Resorts

Wednesday 27 December 2006

I've always wanted to visit Langkawi. My sister used to study there at a college in Pantai Cenang and she did have a good time there. I must go to Langkawi and perhaps, next year being Visit Malaysia Year 2007 would be a good time. It would be great to get there, rent a car and drive around the island to visit the famous spots always mentioned in history books.

Situated in the state of Kedah, the Langkawi Archipelago is actually made up of 104 islands, the largest being Langkawi Island. A perfect hide-away for those seeking the rejuvenating experience of relaxing amidst tropical greenery and sun-soaked beaches, the island has been promoted as a holiday paradise and a duty-free port since 1987.
The charming island of Langkawi, rich with legends and folklore, historical landmarks, luscious greenery, scenic lakes and many others, form the ideal backdrop for Berjaya Langkawi Beach & Spa Resort.

The spectacular Berjaya Langkawi Beach & Spa Resort is located in Burau Bay on the island of Langkawi, approximately 15 minutes drive from the airport. Traditional Malaysian-style chalets and suites spanned over 70 acres of land set in a 5-million rainforest fronting the ocean with sun-kissed beaches. All 502 rooms and suites are beautifully decorated and furnished with modern amenities. Enjoy a scrumptious variety of local and International cuisine and endless fun with exciting indoor, outdoor as well as water-sports activities. [source]

Apparently, the Berjaya Langkawi Beach & Spa Resort is one of the best and popular amongst the numerous hotels under the Berjaya group. Current promotional rates start from RM320 nett per night for 2 persons with breakfast. Click on the pictures above to take you direct to the hotel's website.

Holiday Inn Resort Damai Beach, Sarawak

Tuesday 26 December 2006

Nestled away in Teluk Bandung, Santubong which is a 40 minutes drive from Kuching, Sarawak is the famed Damai Beach. There are three international-class resort hotels here, one of which is the Holiday Inn Resort Damai Beach, which belongs to the InterContinental Hotels Group. Amongst the three, the Holiday Inn Resort Damai Beach is also the oldest and I think, the best.

Holiday Inn Resort Damai Beach sprawls over 90 acres of prime sea-front land, framed by lush tropical forests with a view of the legendary and majestic Mount Santubong in the foreground which lends an air of mystery to this place.

Apart from the usual beach hotel facilities like swimming pool and water sports, there is also an Arnold Palmer-designed golf course nearby - The Damai Golf and Country Club for those who can't leave their golf clubs behind.

Sarawak is rich in its culture and diversity in the many native tribes living harmoniously in this Land of the Hornbills. Just adjacent to this resort is the award winning Sarawak Cultural Village where visitors can experience the culture and lifestyle of the main races and tribes living in this state. This living museum conveniently potrays the respective lifestyle of the major racial groups amidst 14 acres of equatorial vegetation. I personally have visited the Sarawak Cultural Village 4 times already! So, there is much to see and do over here in Damai.

There are many types of rooms available at Holiday Inn Resort Damai Beach. Pick your choice of pool side rooms, family rooms, balcony type rooms, Bidayuh-Baruk suites (where the rooms are styled after traditional Bidayuh / Baruk houses) and garden view rooms. I onced stayed at their garden chalets (beach front) and really enjoyed my stay there. It has all the luxuries of a 4 star rated hotel but retaining a natural kampung style decor which brings you back to nature.

For food, you might want to check out the nearby fishing village of Kampung Buntal for some great tasting seafood. There are many seafood restaurants there and some of them are built on stilts to enable you to have a good view of the South China Sea.

A search on the internet revealed that rooms are available from RM175 nett per night. Click on the pictures above to take you to the hotel's international website.

Equatorial Cameron Highlands Giveaway Deals

I have always liked travelling to Cameron Highlands...the famed vegetable and flower farm of Malaysia. It is also where the famous Boh Tea plantation is located. Yet, despite my trips there so far, I have not stayed overnight. I haven't figured out why but I guess it is because those trips were more of a "tagging with parents" trip rather than my individual trip up there.

I have heard much about the Equatorial Cameron Highlands, which is touted by many as the best hotel up there on the highlands. Perched at 1,628 meters above sea level, surrounded by majestic mountains and gentle undulating valleys, Equatorial Cameron Highlands is the only resort situated at the highest accessible point of highlands.

Spread over 13 acres, the Tudor styled resort offers 240 attractive, self-contained low rise apartment suites and 270 superior rooms and suites in the hotel tower that offer breathtaking views of the highland landscapes.

The Resort is famously known for its capability in hosting events from company incentive trips to conventions and seminars. Besides the Resort's extensive recreational facilities and vast grounds, where telematches and scavenger hunts can be carried out; the Resort will also arrange trips to the "Orang Asli" settlement.

Currently, the hotel is running its Giveaway Deals from RM188++ wherein you will be given a Food & Beverage Credit worth RM88 for you to spend at the hotel's food and beverage outlets. That's a good deal considering that Equatorial Hotel's food and beverage outlets have always been known to dish out good food (or at least, that's what I experienced in Equatorial Hotel Kuala Lumpur as well as Equatorial Hotel Bangi).

Click on the hotel facade to take you to the hotel's main web site or click on the hotel room to take you directly to the rates in detail.

Sunway Hotel Georgetown

Thursday 21 December 2006

I stayed at the Sunway Hotel, Georgetown last December and was quite impressed with the hotel. The hotel is situated at New Lane in Georgetown, Penang and is a 5 minute walk away from KOMTAR. Whilst KOMTAR is in quite a pathetic state considering that it used to be THE shopping centre, there is still one supermarket there in case you need to grab something.

The room was clean and spacious and check-in was done quite fast. We were given a room facing the Penang Bridge...and a Hindu temple. The ringing bells from the Hindu temple was a bit of a bother in the wee hours of the morning though. Unfortunately, I think the windows were not double-glazed for sound-proofing. I won't blame the temple devotees but I thought the hotel could have been more thoughtful.

Anyway, just two doors away from Sunway Hotel are 2 restaurants / coffee shops selling great Penang hawker fare - Rojak, Char Kuey Teow, Prawn Mee, Fried Oyster (O chien) and such. We were there for one night only and could not find enough room to accommodate all the great food available.

Presently, Sunway Hotel is offering rooms from RM180 nett with breakfast for 2. That was what we paid for the last time we went. Breakfast was not too bad either and we had the luxury of using the club floor cafe (which was on the same floor as our room) with personalised service.

Click on the above picture to take you to Sunway Hotel's website.

Cyberview Lodge Resort & Spa Getaway Package from RM298 per night

Monday 18 December 2006

Cyberview Lodge Resort & Spa is an award winning resort and spa and is located in Cyberjaya (the I.T. centre of Malaysia). Now, it is definitely interesting to find an exclusive 5-star garden resort only half-way between the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and the city.

The resort's highlight is the Sembunyi Spa which features 10,000 square feet of sheer relaxation! Indulge in a myriad of traditional Asean style body treatments, facials and massages or work out in the gym, swim in the lap pool, unwind in the hot jacuzzi, steam room and sauna or rejuvenate in the cold dip – it’s all here waiting for you! Truly a hideaway for mind, body & soul!

I've been to this resort twice for wedding banquets (one of which preceded with a garden party) and was amazed with the greenary, flora and fauna in this place. The resort uses timber extensively and is very pleasing on the eyes. Once you get to this place, you immediately go into a sense of relaxation. I am told that the rooms are great.

From now till 31st December 2006, Cyberview Lodge Resort & Spa is promoting its Tropika Room Package from RM298++ per night which includes chalet accomodation for one night (upgrade to deluxe chalet upon availability), breakfast for two, welcome drinks, complimentary entrance to Sembunyi Spa Wet Area (entrance to lap pool, hot jacuzzi, cold plunge, steam and sauna) and complimentary fishing and mountain bike usage.

Cititel Express Kuala Lumpur from RM68 nett per night

Fancy no-frills hotel stay in the heart of Kuala Lumpur from RM68 (or less than USD20) nett per night? You might want to try out the new Cititel Express at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman. Cititel Express is a member of the CHM group and a 2nd brand of the Cititel Hotel.

It is strategically located on the fringes of the golden triangle of Kuala Lumpur City Centre, along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman (this street was affectionately known as Batu Road) famed for its cobbled side streets of “Little India” hawking colourful silk saris, ornaments, masses of carpets, textiles, centuries old kopi tiam (coffee shops) and varieties of local hawker fares. A short distance away is Twin Towers, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and some of the main tourist belts.

I should know because my office is located along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman! Of course, this road is quite busy during the day but it has character! For one, I think there is no other place in Kuala Lumpur which has as many textile shops available - from the simple batik print to expensive Giorgio Armani fabric. It is truly a shoppers' haven here. And there are many restaurants selling the famed Nasi Kandar from Penang.

The rooms come with individually controlled air-conditioning, hair-dryer, television, broadband connectivity (in case you want to surf or email home) and in-room locker. This hotel will be ideal for those on a budget but looking for a clean and neat hotel managed by a reputable company with a good location especially for window-shopping.

Hyatt Regency Kinabalu from RM223.00 per night

Friday 15 December 2006

Hyatt Regency Kinabalu is located in the heart of the city of Kota Kinabalu, facing the South China Sea, the capital of the state of Sabah is also the international gateway to East Malaysia. Only 15 minutes from Kota Kinabalu International Airport, Hyatt Regency Kinabalu sits in the hub of the vibrant business, shopping and entertainment districts.

I stayed at this hotel in the year 2003 and was very impressed with the room (which is not unlike the picture above). I was given a room facing the sea and I could see the little (and not so little) boats along the harbour. The room is well kept and full of amenities and I had a comfortable and enjoyable stay there. I remembered the bed was great and even took a quick nap just before I left for the airport.

The harbour is a hive of activity as there is a market nearby including a Filipino Market where you can get handicrafts made by the Filipino community as well as sea produce. Lots of things to buy, I must say.

As this hotel is located in the town centre, there are plenty of shops around. In fact, the hotel adjoins a shopping centre (Wisma Merdeka, if I remembered the name correctly) which has plenty of shops including local handicraft shops (where you can buy souveniers), pharmacy, book stores, saloons etc. There is a fast food chain across the road (McDonald's or Burger King, I can't remember) if you want a quick bite. If you are interested in exploring the town, this hotel will be suitable for you.

At the moment, you can get rooms from RM223.00 per night, which is a great deal considering that this is a 5-star rated hotel. Check out their website by clicking on the pictures above.

Hilton Batang Ai Longhouse Resort, Sarawak

Thursday 14 December 2006

Hilton Batang Ai Longhouse Resort is located on the shores of a spectacular freshwater lake, surrounded by mountains and the unspoiled rainforests of Sarawak. Its design is based on the traditional timber longhouses of the region's native Iban Tribes. The resort has 100 rooms, the Nanga Mepi Restaurant, Wong Irup Bar, an outdoor terrace, a swimming pool, a meeting room for up to 220 guests, and a boat jetty for arriving guests. Nearby is the 27,000-hectare Batang Ai National Park.

I stayed at this Resort about 5 years back and was very impressed with the place. The boat ride across the lake, is in itself, an experience to be savoured and remembered fondly.

For that trip, we travelled by the resort's van from Kuching. The van ride takes approximately 3 1/2 hours towards the Batang Ai Dam. When we arrived at one side of the dam, the boat was already waiting for us and we were given life-jackets each for safety reasons. The man-made lake (the dam, if you call it) is huge! Surrounded by mountains and trees, you'll be forgiven for thinking that you are being transported to another world - away from the hustles and bustles of the city.

There is a welcoming party at the Resort. Basically, the boat ride ends at the Resort. The room we had was nice. As it is very cooling to be in the midst of the jungle, no air-conditioning is necessary. Mosquito netting is standard and you can almost touch the trees if you reach out your hand from the window. As this is a eco-resort, as little trees are removed as possible to maintain the eco-system.

There was a Resident Guide (a Briton who was based in Sarawak as part of the British armed forces and made Sarawak his home after Sarawak's independance from the British Government) who is very well versed with the jungle. He gives a guided tour on a nature trail and showed us some medicinal plants along the way. I wonder if he's still there... he's quite a character, really - donning a hat, Steve Irwin-type of khakis and armed with a parang...and very generous with his wealth of knowledge. It was truly an enjoyable experience walking with him. Oh by the way, the guided tour is free. Just be there at the schedule time and pray that the weather is good.

The Discover Malaysia Offer includes:
  • One night accommodation
  • Hilton Breakfast
  • Free upgrade to a Suite (Subject to availability)
  • Early check-in /out (Subject to availability).
Special Offer Dates:-
Sep 01, 2006 - Mar 31, 2007
